FINAL THOUGHTS: Goodbye Literature for the Soul!

Overall, this class allowed me to further explore new ideas and develop my writing skills. This class was an engaging, yet challenging experience. Certain aspects that I enjoyed were engaging in literary analysis of various texts, such as Interpreter of Maladies, Antigone, The Storm, and Children of the Sea, These works remain relevant in today’s world, and it was refreshing to have an educator that took student interest/engagement into consideration. Since taking this class, I have learned to look at texts through a more analytical lens. I have also learned how to interpret texts in a more advanced way through increased critical thinking skills. I have also developed my public speaking skills through various presentations, class discussions, and group work. I understand that literature is sometimes up to the interpretation of the audience.

Thinking outside the box was an important aspect of this class. I will continue to expand my thinking and look into different perspectives. My writing method has drastically improved through the utilization of outlines, plenty of practice, and feedback from Professor Brady, as well as my peers. One of my favorite parts of this class was hearing different interpretations of the same topic. It was fascinating to hear my classmates’ thoughts about any given topic. It also gave me new ideas for future assignments. One idea that really resonated with me was the conclusion that avoiding reality can only hurt you in the long run. I will most likely apply this idea to my life outside of the classroom. I was surprised at the amount of fun I had while in the classroom, and while completing take-home assignments. I was allowed to illustrate my understanding of the subject matter and it made me proud to me positive feedback on my work.

In 5 years, I see myself becoming more advanced as a thinker. I hope to become more open-minded and interpretative. I aim to expand my knowledge and continue my personal development. As a thinker, I hope to become better at decision-making and retain a higher emotional intelligence level. Essentially, in 5 years, I see myself becoming a more empathetic and well-rounded individual.
